(Spoilers) Episode 2.03 "Belle Chose" Discussion
Oct 9 2009, 7:02 AM EDT | Post edited: Oct 9 2009, 7:05 PM EDT
Directed by David Solomon.

Written by Tim Minear.

Guest stars: Liza Lapira, Michael Hogan, Ayre Gross, Joe Sikora, Danielle Langlois, Deanna Douglas, Tara Holt, Susan Ziegler, Matt Winston

First, our writer-director team was responsible for the "Out of Gas" episode of Firefly. If you liked that, you'll like this episode. Secondly, belle chose, for those who didn't use a translator, is French for beautiful thing. Thirdly, you'll probably recognize Michael Hogan as Colonel Saul Tigh on BSG (Battlestar Galactica for those who don't know).

I'll just leave you here to fester--I mean, discuss. Godspeed to Dollhouse's future. Hear hear!

This one definitely made me laugh out loud more than once, and I'm glad they finally addressed the Claire issue. But seriously, no GPS in Victor? Talk about organizational issues. Adelle is going to have Topher's head for the wipe screw-up, huh? Do you find this valuable?

Okay, Victor as Kiki was HEEElarious! I'm also Happy to find out that their looking for Whiskey. This Episode was Really Good! This Was probably some of the best Acting of the show. i Also Love how it wasn't exactly A Standalone. It had some Intense Moments, and Eliza Did A Great Job! Props To Enver Aswell.

Okay, this was intense, talk about the mind of a killer. This guy we knew right off was seriously disturbed. It was chilling. Human mannequins? I loved Paul going to find Echo and having that moment where he’s like, um.. You want a towel? I mean a treatment. Lol. Very strange how Boyd didn’t seem at all worried that Claire is missing, while Adelle isn’t pleased they have no idea where she is or if she’s glitching. What happens if she hurts someone or herself? Echo isn’t the only one suffering complications from past imprints. Speaking of imprints, how cool to see how they’re mapped out. I’d wondered how they do it.
It worries me how Adelle sometimes takes big risks if a client is important or rich enough. This had the makings of an imprint gone bad b/f they even did it. As Boyd said, “Topher has ethical problems. Topher.” So you knew it was gonna be huge. I got a kick out of Paul having to wait on Echo to be made over for her assignment, the stylist was a bit much, and the guy saying “I won’t do this for my wife.” and he’s like, “I was trained in Quantico.” Lol. Ah how the mighty have fallen eh? I was a bit put off by how he was staring at her like some love struck teen, so I was thrilled when Boyd offered to take over. “Serial killer? Thank God.” hahahaha.

I liked her imprint too. Talk about a trip. Hobbits? Skipped intro to Evil? *snicker* It was so cool how Paul confronted Vic ‘aka the killer’ w/his own body. I loved Topher taking the uncle down there. “We kept him really..clean.” *Shrugs* And it probably would have worked as an approach too if the uncle hadn’t interfered. Then again. Paul wondered if he could break him. It was flooring when he got out and they had no idea how to find him b/c Wiskey/Claire never told anyone his GPS strip was missing. Btw, nice to know how they always know how to find them. It was just chilling, Vic was so scary as the killer. The only thing that made it better was when he and Echo swapped out. Poor Topher. Talk about bad days. First he finds out there’s a psycho and he imprints it, then they lose him, then he tries to fix it and the whole grid goes down resulting in an imprint switch. I nearly laughed myself sick when Vic was Kiki. Oh man...
And Echo going back to the lair to finish the job.. Yikes. Kicking the body and ranting the way she did, I loved how she carried that scene off. She was him, then she was herself, then she felt him coming on again. For a moment I thought she was okay when she said “Did I fall asleep?” but then when it became clear that she intended to have the surviving women kill her I was hoping Paul and the others could make it to her in time. And they did, just barely. Heck yeah I’d have wanted a treatment. “You okay?” “I don’t think so.” Don’t blame her. And am I mistaken or did Paul kill him? They were gonna transfer him and he was fine, Adelle seemed to regret that as much as Ballard, but then Echo comes in and asks if he dreams. “Not anymore.” Beep... I was like, wait, did he just... I think he did! And then Echo saying “Goodness gracious.” Just a really great episode.

You have to feel awful for Caroline. I mean, she was just trying to expose Rossum's evilness and she winds up stuck as a doll, and even after her five years are up she'll still "feel" all her past imprints unless Topher finds a way to fix her. Do you find this valuable?

"Belle Chose" is certainly not the best Dollhouse episode, but is a fun installment. Hmm. Victor with a woman in him. The guys he/she was chatting with in that scene I thought were a little scary. I'm guessing that was a Joss idea. Do you find this valuable?

I thought this episode did a great job of paralleling Adelle with the serial killer. It really showed the darker side of what the Dollhouse is capable of. Do you find this valuable?

Enver as Kiki...ah, can't stop from laughing! Topher was all, "This is a normal brain...it's my brain". Wow, hilarious, but way to be conceited. Adelle's look was priceless. Ivy looked gorgeous (was she going somewhere?). I wanted more of Mr. Hogan. He seems like a cool actor. And as usual, Enver is great in everything he does. Nothing more to say.

I loved all of the parallels that could be drawn between everything, from Chaucer to the human mannequins. I have no real qualms with the episode, even though the professor was really creepy despite his moral ambiguity (or so the people of Whedonesque say). Finally Claire's appearance was addressed. "She's Claire now?" I'm really getting the feeling that Boyd not only has a bond with Claire, but he didn't tell Adelle for a short while. Oh, but she needs to come back. Now. Clash with Bennett! What I wouldn't give to see a fight between those two--or three, if Topher gets thrown in there.

More later, this episode (and that preview!!!!) deserves a rewatch first thing tomorrow morning.

That was great. I loved the ending even more. Echo's final remark, "Goodness gracious!" was delightful. One psycho eliminated.

Now, if she can only avoid reliving the one stuck into her head...

I liked the episode as a whole, but thought the whole professor/student thing to be a bit far-fetched, in that few professors of literature would have the money to hire an Active, even if they knew someone in the organization. It was really only a setup to allow Echo to switch to the killer while Victor vamped as little Kiki. Still, that dancing was hilarious and Paul's comeback line was perfect.

Okay, I shouldn't have said that Echo's original engagement was ONLY there as a setup for what followed. The power of a woman that Chaucer was talking about, the powerlessness of the human mannequins (created by a powerless man who had felt female strength as a child--and hated it, rather than embracing his own strengths and appreciating those of the other sex)...yeah, it did work together quite well. I got it, though I'm not sure how much of the "general" audience understood what was going on.

"I got it, though I'm not sure how much of the "general" audience understood what was going on."
I think the parallels were spelled out fairly nicely. It's why one of the human mannequins said, "we're human, we're not his toys", to drive the point home to the "general" audience. It took me a while to get the changing an F to an A (I thought she was mixing up her "The Scarlett Letter" book knowledge), but in the end, I understood. All in all, one of the main themes of this particular episode was...well, I'm not sure how to explain it. Gender inequality or society's outlook on women? There was historical allusion to Chaucer, so...?

No offense to a few of the smarties on Whedonesque (I love reading their insight daily), but the line, although not placed in the best spot, wasn't meant for the smart and quick-grasping people, the major fans of Whedon. It was meant for the residual audience from "'Til Death", or the audience who watches just for Eliza's sex appeal or for a particular actor (the BSG fans of Colonel Tigh), even the Whedon fans who aren't that devoted.

This is the most awesomest ep so far. It had equal parts of the LOL and creepy, and I find the way they cut the scenes to be fantastic. The ep has a more ensemble-type feel to it, and I absolutely loved loved loved Boyd, Topher, Victor (esp. Victor. Enver was magnificent in this episode. Victor!Terry was chilling and Victor!Kiki was just. SO. WONDERFUL) and ADELLE! I loved her interaction with Paul, Topher, with Boyd and the Tighlon (and her talking to the phone... lawlz). I didn't mind Echo that much. I actually found her valley/sorority girl pretty funny and Eliza also pulled of Echo!Terry. Hee. And the ending, omg. >.<

And I saw the promo for the week after next. It's going be a little bit difficult to watch, but I felt the lack of Sierra in this ep. I can't wait!

The only thing worst that Topher having ethical issues is Adelle having them. And I think Paul killed Terry.

And I've seen debates whether it's standalone or part of the myth-arc. I think it's part of the myth-arc. We see the continuing of Echo's evolution (turning off the Terry imprint) and Topher trying to create a remote wipe (which obviously didn't really work... although there's the switching of personalities thing going on).

And I saw the allusion to Adelle and Terry and the surrounding of copies and being in control. Totally creepy.

Wonderfully written episode & great acting by Tamoh, Eliza & Enver. It's was funny & scary, myth-y & standalone; everything all at the same time which are the type of Whedon shows that I love. Can't wait to see Sierra's ep. Hurry up, two weeks from now! Do you find this valuable?

Wow... this was just wow...

"Would you like a... a... towel?"
"Yes, thank you. I'm wet." <-- LOL. In one way or more than just one way? (yeah, yeah, I'm dirty)..

Then, "man reaction"!!! And Adelle's "I choose not to hear that."
The most hilarious part though... "If Terry is in Echo, then where's Kiki?" - cue me almost falling out of my chair from laughing because of what followed.

Man, Kiki was anooooooooying. But that's ok, she was supposed to be annoying. So what I'm trying to say is: Good acting job Eliza! Three eps now and I'm impressed with Eliza's performance in all three of them. This show is really good for her. Then there's of course Enver, but we already saw last season how brilliant he is.

Intriguing moments in the ep too. When Ballard was interrogating Terry and Adelle was listening... Especially the "You pushed everyone away and replaced them with copies" part. You could see on Adelle's face that line gave even her pause.

Also, I think Echo has now learned to withstand her imprints. Just like how we've seen in Epitaph One.

And finally, the preview for next week's ep... WOW... LOL though at how they're pimping Summer Glau, even though she won't be on until three weeks from now. But whatever, if it works, if it allows the show to stay on the air a bit longer, I don't really mind.

Edit: Go Kiki, Go Kiki!! http://www.bukketgames.com/dh/dh_victor_dance.gif LOL
