The Little Things (Or, "Hey, That Song In the BG is 'Just Dance!' ")

Let's appreciate the little things in this show, shall we?

One of the nice touches has always been the music... and I mean, sure we all know (probably, by now) the symbolism of the opening theme's lyrics, or the "freedom" song in ep. 3. But has anyone stopped to notice the music in the background of the club scene in "Ghost"? It's Lady Gaga's "Just Dance". Here's a sample of the refrain/chorus:

"What's the name of this club? / I can't remember / but it's alright / I'm alright / Just Dance! / Don't do nothin' / Just Dance! (Spin that record, babe) / Don't do nothin' / Just Dance! / Just Dance! / Just Dance!"

There is NO WAY that was chosen only because it had catchy electropop club beats good to dance to. The entire song is about having a good time while being *so drunk you start forgetting things and losing yourself*. It even has lines like "Where are my keys? / I lost my phone" and "How'd I turn my shirt inside out?", "I've had a little bit too much / All of the people start to rush by" even (repeated) "I love this record / But I can't see straight anymore"

So much of that is obviously symbolic that, again... no way it was ONLY chosen for its beats. ;) Shows how much thought was really put into the series, no?

Also, in ep. 3, when Echo says she has to "help her" (or "save her" I forget which it was?), notice how she is actually looking at the picture of Sierra? Because Music Manager Guy certainly didn't, and neither did I until I'd seen the episode a second time! Nice.

AND it was pointed out to me at one point that when "Mellie" shows up, we see her in bare feet. AHEM. Like a Doll! Also apparently universal Jossymbolism for otherworldly women; notice R. Tam in Firefly = barefoot much of the time.
