"SG has never shown me any ability to show any emotion"
You clearly haven't watched River Tam on "Firefly" and "Serenity" (short as they were), and certainly not the Terminator tv show, specially ep. 4 from season 2 ("Allison from Palmdale") and ep. 5 from season 1 ("Queen's Gambit").

Do try.
If after that you can still honestly say Summer Glau can't show any emotion, then, wow... I'm lost for words. Really.

I've certainly watched some of the terrible Firefly (although as I don't enjoy pain I didn't watch it all because frankly it was poorly thought-out and juvenile as well as poorly acted with the exception of the always brilliant Baldwin).

And if after watching Terminator or The 4400 you can still honestly say Summer Glau can play anything other than wooden, then, wow... I'm lost for words. Really.

See what I did there?

It was never about your overall opinion on Firefly, 4400 or Terminator overall shows here, but only about Summer Glau's specific performance there, specially about the "she can't show any emotion" part.

If you choose to badmouth Summer Glau just like that, also claiming now that she's "wooden", then I'm really sorry. You claim you saw Firefly and didn't like it (that's ok because it was not my favorite cup of tea either), but you didn't see Summer's performance there with an open mind. To me, you just didn't like the show and thus choose to baselessly bash most of it, except Baldwin, just because you're probably a fan.

Nobody with an honest thinking and opinion and an open mind can see Summer Glau in Firefly or on the episodes I mentioned from Terminator and still say she was "wooden" or couldn't show emotion, just like that. In fact, it was quite the opposite.
Come on... You'll have to do better than just mock and (attempt) to reverse my "lost for words comment".
Why the hate, really?

You're uniformly saying she's good and I'm uniformly saying she stinks. Shrug. I don't see a point of debate here because neither of us are going to change one another's minds.

I'm gutted this talentless actress is on the show.

You're estatic this talented actress is on the show.

I don't see any point in debate, but telling me that I don't have an open mind because I don't slavishly worship at the alter of the Whedonverse is frankly insulting.

Maybe you need an open mind to allow others their opinions.

Well, first, I agree it appears none of us us going to change the other's mind.

Second, my point was not saying Summer Glau was good or talented and much less do I "slavishly worship her in a Whedonverse altar". You're putting words in my post. I don't have an altar, and I'm not even a special Whedon fan besides this show.

My point, as you well should know, was just to say that it was not true that Glau couldn't show emotion at all or that she was wooden or devoid of talent, and I provided evidence to back up my claim. Anybody can see her showing plenty of emotion on the episodes and shows I mentioned, and that is FACT, which is more than your simple negative and unsubstantiated opinion. You could say that was a poor display of emotion, but that's not your claim.

And what I said goes a long way from slavishly worshiping Summer Glau in some sort of altar. Though I appreciate her work so far, I'm not a fanatic disciple or some rabid fanboy. There surely are WAY much bigger actresses out there. Summer is still pretty much small time.

Anyway, peace.

That's the biggest strawman of the century. It is, frankly, insulting. See what I did there?

Losa in no way said Summer is good just because she's a Whedonverse actress. He has his opinion on Summer based on her performance, especially in the mentioned TSCC episode. Where she showed a plethora of emotions.

You have some strange hate towards Firefly and will bash anyone connected to it (except Baldwin). So you saying Summer's acting is "wooden" is not based on Summer's actual performance but on said strange hate.

Not to be the official bitch of the thread, but if we're having a disagreement, let's leave it at an agreement that we have a disagreement and leave it at that. That's me being polite. We go any further, and I'll be a real bitch about it.

I'm a huge Summer fan, but I'm not going to go all uppity about the current topic -nor am I going to force my opinion on you, XFEver. Therefore, I ask the same of you. You're not a fan of Summer. Fine. Please don't force that on the rest of us, who may or may not be fans of hers. Respect that there may be a difference of opinion and allow everyone else their positions, just like I ask the others to respect yours.

We're very good at respecting each other in this forum, and also respecting each other's opinions. We've tolerated a difference of opinions before and kept to disagreements that have been solved peacefully. Let's not escalate into an argument. We're keeping a good track record, right?

That said, I'm entirely happy Summer's on board. I've been pitching for her to be in Dollhouse from the beginning, and as some sort of Dollhouse employee. Both wishes granted. Do you find this valuable?

I second eri_quin on that topic. I'll put in a quick two cents on Summer and then let it rest...

I did not see a lot of TSCC, so I do not know how she played her Terminator role, but I did watch all of Firefly as well as Serenity. One episode of Firefly comes immediately to my mind, Objects in Space. For a substantial portion of the episode you do not see River at all, but only hear her voice. When she talks to the bounty hunter she comes across alternately as a lost soul, a confidant, and even a mother figure, and all of the emotions she projects in her voice are nuanced, neither wooden nor emoted. Whether or not she has the opportunity to display that ability on Dollhouse, I welcome her to the show.

And that's a good way for us to end it. Like you said, there isn't anything we can say to change either opinion. It's an ensemble show and not every actor will always appeal to everyone. I do hope you enjoy the season, though. Many of us are excited about seeing her and it does just sound as if it's only a guest appearance.
