Who else hates Paul Ballard?
Is it just me or does anyone else think that Paul Ballard is the worst character on the show? I just cant find any reason to root for him at all.
He is just a tactless thug. In 'Man on the Street' Ballard basically breaks the arm of a fellow FBI agent just because that FBI agent hurt Ballard feelings with some mean words. In 'Needs' Ballard rams the face of a tech guy onto a table when the tech guy doesn't imediatley respond to Ballard's questions. When compared to the shrewd and clever machinations of Adelle or the conflicted caring and tenderness of Boyd, Ballard is just such a flat, terrible character. Ballard has no subtlety, no cleverness, no nothing except for an obsession that Patton Oswalt pinpointed perfectly as being pretty darn creepy. Furthermore the only reason Ballard has gotten anywhere close to Dollhouse is based on pure dumb luck, like him seeing Echo on the random news channel, or being mailed pictures by Alpha or called by Echo herself. I love this series and Dollhouse has a wonderful cast of complex, well-developed characters, so why is Ballard the least likeable and least developed character getting so much airtime as the guy that we are supposed to get behind and root for? and root for?

I think Paul Ballard kicks ass. Hes hotter then any of the dolls, and
"he pretty much does exactly what needs doing. I guess some people here love grey areas, but I like hot, heroic good men who are willing to fight for the right thing. That weasely agent that got his arm broken certainly deserved it. I would have done worse. I love seeing him in action, and I wish they would dhow more of him, and a lot less of the rodent like scientist. His jokes only go so far. I am just not a big lover of snarky men. There are so many alreay out there." I like both snarky and teh hotness that is the like of Paul Ballard. But since this is a Ballard thread, I will speak no more of it. All hail the drool-inducingness that is Tahmoh's Ballard. *bows down to shirtless statue of Paul*

Question about Paul and Echo!!!!
Okay, for anyone who watches the extras or the Comic-Con, etc. When Tahmoh (Paul Ballard) messed up the very first shooting of the show, saying "wallhouse" instead of "dollhouse", he's talking to Echo. Have we seen that episode, with those two together? I know we've seen the one where she beats the crap out of him in the kitchen/alleyway.
Did we already see this clip of them together? I know in the outtake, paul says "Where'd you hear about 'wall' house, and then he sets some keys down.

(*SPOILERS*) Babylon5 Thread
After watching episode #4 Infection, I am beginning to understand the problem with Dollhouse if you don't like Paul Ballard. I am having a similar problem with Jeffrey Sinclair. If you don't relate to the apparent "hero" it detracts from the show.
Wow! It's a much younger Ducky guest starring as Vance Hendricks!
The confrontation between Sinclair and Nelson(alien/artifact) guy reminded me of that Star Trek episode where Kirk convinced the robot thing that it was imperfect and made a mistake so it had to sterilize itself.
The important carry-over facts from this episode seemed to be:
No one believed Babylon 5 had much chance of succeeding.
There is a growing Pro-Earth (anti-alien) faction growing on Earth, but Alien immigration to Earth has been increasing.
The Vorlon have this living machine technology. The Minbari MAY have it.
These living machines/artifacts have now fallen into the hands of EarthForce bioweapons department.
Religious Fanaticism seems to play a recurring role in the stories. The Soul Hunters were also a religious-like organization.
Questions or Nits:
Did not quite understand Dr. Franklin's shortcut speech. What else is an archeologist supposed to do but dig up things created and invented by other cultures and races?
Why were these artifacts all sealed a mile deep under the surface of the planet if they simply killed everyone and then ceased functioning?
Interesting character reveals: Garibaldi was fired 5x and B5 is also his last best hope in some ways. Sinclair is suffering from must be a HERO syndrome.
Now that the show is falling into the "threat of the week" format more than dealing with the ongoing arcs, I don't like it quite as much. I like the historical/political conflicts and character stories the best.

What do YOU think of Paul's scene with Mellie? *SPOILERS 1.10 Haunted*
This is the personality I've sensed in Ballard from the very beginning.. I was actually kind of pleased to see it play out further.
The idea of the "good guy" being so.... squicky... was GREAT. I hate the good guy. Clever, dear writers.
He is in an impossible position, though. I think he did the best with what situations were around him.
The whole ordeal, however, made my heart break for November. (I sooo wish we knew her original name!) The programming she has been given! Sheessh. After her little speech I wanted to slap her silly, doll or not. I shouldn't be surprised they programmed her like that, but... GRRRRRRRR.
I don't think she liked the sex. Not really. I think she was terrified, but was so happy to be receiving attention from Paul she didn't say no. Well that and I'm pretty sure she's incapable of saying no.

(Spoilers) Episode 1.02 “The Target” Discussion Thread
I think a lot of those people who say she is a bad actress will soon be running out of feet to eat, especially as the show progresses. I loved the Alpha flash backs. I was surprised to find out that Echo is, in fact, not new to the Dollhouse. And in another thread it was pointed out that the neighbor of Ballard (the FBI guy) might be a doll, which I think would be a cool twist.

(Spoilers) Episode 1.06 "Man on the Street" Discussion Thread
What I find funny is that my chinese mother, herself is intrigued by the show. She called me actually and asked me what the show was all about and how she was intially confused. I enjoyed explaining the plot to her...
Anyway, I myself feel confused...is there an inside man/woman whose seeking help from Paul Ballard? And if so my first bet would be Claire Saunders.
And Alpha, will there be further explanations, actually can someone further explain the role of Alpha is this series? I know he escaped in a rampage...
Adelle DeWitt, what's her goal? I hate to think she herself is an antagonist.
Why? Why is there a Doll House in the first place. And with the tease of next weeks episode, obviously its not what it claims to be...
lol, I love how provoking the show is!

Spoilers
Sorry if this has been posted already, but I just read some spoilers in TV Guide on DH. We got a full two pages. :) I'm sure some of these have already come out, but just in case...
Echo will have the same need over time to know herself and save her fellow dolls, but she’ll also feel the effects from her multiple personality download. The imprinted personalities, some homicidal, will surface at inopportune times. Paul Ballard will be her new Handler and he’s working to solve cases he couldn’t w/the FBI using the dolls. They’ll still have their chemistry and he’ll be jealous of her clients. In particular Jamie Bamber who guest stars as a criminal Ballard failed to bust w/the FBI and who wants Echo so much he marries her. Keith Carradine comes in as Adelle’s nemesis. We already know Summer Glau is joining the DH staff. Alexis Denisof will be guesting as a senator who has dirt on the house, and Felicia Day reprises her role as the unaired episodes freedom fighter in the future.

SPOILER WARNING: Fox April Fool Clip Speculation SPOILERS AHEAD
I think it is funny that people are voicing a growing distrust of Paul Ballard in other threads. I wonder if they have seen the clip and the evil seed is starting to grow or if they are really picking up on a not rightness to him. The only reason I am bummed about seeing the clip if its true is I would have liked a chance to figure it out on my own.

Dollhouse Questionnaire 2-After the Fact, Before What Could Be
And it looks like I'm not getting answers in a while...oh well, MORE QUESTIONS!
13. Will we see Loomis and Agent Brian Tanaka in the show again? Is Loomis in touch/going to be in touch with Paul Ballard? 14. As posted in the "Omega" discussion thread, a comment on a TIME Magazine article about Dollhouse states that Whiskey hates Topher because of what he's done, not because he's programmed her to do so. Could this be true? 15. Another comment posted on the same TIME Magazine article states the following: "Topher, scarred by the Alpha incident and/or frightened by Rossum's larger goals, and too craven to do anything about it himself, decides to program a subconscious rebellion subpersonality in Saunders 2.0. Saunders is the one who (unknowingly) reprograms the dolls to transfer information to Ballard (possibly by poisoning the root personalities used in the imprints?). Topher adds a level of misdirection by programming Saunders to hate Topher - so that any nagging suspicions Whiskey has that something is wrong with Topher are covered by the programming in Saunders." Could this be true? Or how would it be altered? 16. How would Alpha make his reappearance? 17. Is Paul Ballard going to try to bring the Dollhouse down from within by recruiting Boyd or someone else? 18. Will we ever see any other Dollhouses? Will we ever see the HQ in Tuscon? How will they interact with the LA Dollhouse? 19. Will we ever see Topher run a "diagnostic test" on an Active again? Who will this Active be? Or will he use someone else that's not an Active, an already Imprinted Doll, or decide not to do a "diagnostic test" at all? 20. November was Deactivated in the season finale. Will someone get Deactivated every season finale until the organization falls and they Deactivate everyone? If so, who would be Deactivated at the end of season two?

Alpha and Omega, identity guess (spoilers)
I'd guess Alan Tudyk is Alpha since that seemed implied in the preview, and Paul Ballard will be made into Omega. There's only one episode after next week, they're introducing a new doll, season finales are often depressing/dark, so that would make sense.
Thoughts?

Episode 6 - Freakin Fantastic
omg. this whole freakin' episode, i was like "holy crap" every ten seconds.
-First of all, the whole romance thing with Paul and Mellie? Not a freakin' chance i saw that coming. When we first met Mellie and she commented on the picture of Caroline, Paul was all obsessed with Echo and not Mellie. He seemed somewhat greatful when she brought "leftovers" over, but he also seemed annoyed. -Then, the fight between Paul and Echo. Holy s-h-i-t. That was an INTENSE fight. Wow. Some of it looked like it actually hurt, even though it was acting, i was wincing as i was watching it... -And then after the fight, the conversation between Paul and Echo. I mean, who could have reprogrammed that imprint? I don't think it was an active and it couldn't have been Topher or Boyd unless they were working with someone else...I'm thinking it was the Doctor, but who knows... -Then when Mellie took down Hearn....wow, she kicked his a**. that was awesome. -Okay, last thing. I was so upset when Echo told Paul that he'd be blamed for shooting the cop, and then the whole scene with him handing in his badge and gun.... :( I was praying that he wouldn't be fired, and I knew he wouldn't be, but hey, there was still that really slim chance.
Oh yeah, and nice pic, Sheetka1. And I think that Ballard's "loose lips" to Mellie probably has something to do with the fact that she listens to him about the case and doesn't laugh when everyone else he knows does. (my opinion)

voice mail: there are three flowers in a vase
"I have one critique/question... maybe you can help me out. In the last episode, Man On The Street, Adelle DeWitt calls Agent Paul Ballard's house and leaves a voice mail exposing Mellie as a doll and triggering her super-duper fight skills.
Why on the voice mail? No other dolls enter/leave the house after Paul comes home. If he checks the voice mail and sees his newly found girlfriend just beat a man don't you think he might figure it out? They have hidden cameras watching in on them, couldn't they have had hidden speakers/microphones too? But I re-watched the scene a couple of times and his answering machine goes off and Adelle leaves the message: there are three flowers in a vase... and so on... And we don't see Mellie go to erase it. I doubt Paul leaves his home immediately after that.
It is a minor point and I guess it really isn't all that important in the story. But it still bugs me a little when loose ends aren't tied. Anyway, I was just wondering if anyone else noticed.
I still LOVE the show and LOVE Joss." That's been debated in another thread. My personal belief is that, since the true Mellie was reset by Adelle's second sentence and Killer Mellie had no time to wipe the recording, Ballard's telephone has been altered by the Dollhouse to never record a message from them. Otherwise, that is a huge plot glitch that I don't believe Joss would fall into. If we find out that Paul listens to that message I will be plenty upset. There are other ways to find out Mellie is a Doll, if that is necessary for the plot, and a recorded message is way too sloppy for the sophisticated Dollhouse to have left behind.

(spoilers) So now what?
Now that November has been exposed as a sleeper doll, what s to keep Ballard from following her to her next treatment?
Do you also think his focus on Echo will shift to November, as far as damsel in distress, now that he knows she is being exploited by the dollhouse too?
