I'm sure everyone's thinking this, I'm sure people have said this here before -- but Fox really had NO reason to cancel Dollhouse.
Sure, Dollhouse didn't have the best ratings. (Like, ever...) But you can blame that on lack of advertising. When watching Fox outside of the 9 o'clock slot on Fridays, Dollhouse ads are rarely show -- if they're shown at all. Also, Dollhouse sold fantastically on iTunes, the DVR ratings were through the roof...The Dollhouse season one DVD was in Amazon's Top 10 Bestselling things for an entire month.
If anyone is to blame for Dollhouse not getting decent ratings, it's Fox. I say they should uncancel the show and advertise the hell out of this show. Then, if the numbers still suck, I'll shut up.
But as of RIGHT now? Dollhouse not getting good numbers = Fox's fault.

"I Absolutely 100% Agree to This. Had Fox Promoted This Show, it Could Have Been A Hit. I say Bring it Back for A Third Season(13 Episodes) and ADVERTISE IT!!!!!!!!!!!! Let Joss Do His Thing Aswell! It's FOX'S Fault That the First Five Episodes Were such A Turn off. You Can Absolutely Tell That Fox Interfered Because of "Man on The Street".
It's pretty Clear Fox wanted Dollhouse To Fail Right from the very Beginning. They Say They gave Dollhouse All The Chances In The World But they Didn't. They are just as bad if Not Worse than The People Who Canceled Firefly. The new Fox Execs Played With our Emotions With False Promises. Had it Promoted Like Glee or House, Dollhouse would have been A Hit.
Spin off Starring Sierra, Victor, Topher, November, Adelle, Boyd, and Whiskey Plz!" I have the feeling that there are factions at the Fox network that work at cross purposes. Eliza had a contract to develop something for them, and so they were kind of committed to at least trying out Joss' idea. When the decision was made to put it on Fridays, that was the first blow. Sure, there is less pressure to perform on that evening, but look at the competition. It is obvious what live viewers are looking for that night, and it isn't SciFi drama. Then they do little advertising in Season One, and apparently none this year. So, you have a faction that gives Joss, Eliza and Dollhouse a slim chance, and another faction that ensures that the resultant product costs them as little as possible by never advertising outside of the time slot. It's the old "Give them enough rope to hang themselves, but not enough to reach the ground!" Then they expect you to thank them for the rope.

I hope that the final show is Epitath One. I watch bits and peices of it on YouTube and it was compelling to watch. As a filmmaker/writer I would develope the dollhouse last episode into a full blown movie. No jive it would be interesting and a dollhouse film could expand more on the Rossum corporation technology.

My take on Dollhouse, the Movie

Okay, last season when it looked grim for Dollhouse there was speculation on whether Joss could do a movie wrap-up/extension of the series, ala Firefly/Serenity. I was against it at the time, as it would have involved educating movie-goers to complex concepts that most people do not want to hassle with. If it's more difficult than Matrix philosophy, you lose them.
I've changed my mind.
Here are the reasons:
We've seen Epitaph One, and it is an apocalypse. What could be more theater worthy than a really great apocalyptic future? Even stupid apocalypse movies sell. Add some intelligence to the mix and you're only going to bring 'em in faster.
Cabin in the Woods (3-D!) will be coming out January of 2011, just over a year from now. It promises to be BIG. (Did I say BIG?) Joss is not only going to have significant new industry cred after that, but he'll have enormous street cred beyond his base viewers. If a Dollhouse movie (particularly if it is 3-D) came out with that Epitaph One thematic background, well...let's just say it would MAKE MONEY. As good as Serenity was, it did not break even. This one will.
One final note: as much as I love what Joss has done, as much as I think the title "Dollhouse" is really cool...it won't cut it at the theaters. We will not see "Dollhouse, the Movie." But if Joss gets a fire in his belly, I'm sure he'll be able to come up with a snappy title for our movie. A Dollhouse by any other name will still reek of the corruption of Rossum...

"Interesting post Steve, and here are my thoughts. Do not confuse them with personal attacks, for they are merely critiques, the very definition of "void of all emotion!"
[Couldn't fit in your post as well as my response. Sorry.]" No offense taken. I was really only talking about the feasibility of a DH movie, rather than whether Joss would actually make one. To get corporate backing he would almost certainly have to emphasize the apocalyptic aspect of Epitaph One in his sell. Joss may not wish to do so. Whether the critics say the end of the world genre is done really does not matter. The masses flock to such fare, and will continue to do so for the foreseeable future. Still, Joss being Joss, he'd make it smart, anyway. The questions just might not be explored as in-depth as on the series. 2012. Yeah. From the synopsis I checked out it does not deserve to be included in any genre other than Tripe. Will not see it. Ever. I can see the movie being called Echo, or a variant of that sort. I love the series title, it's just something that will turn off a lot of 13-25 year-old males, a core group that the studio executives will insist on being drawn in.

I was wondering if this would work? Would it be possible to change a couple of words in the songs of Walk through the Fire and I'll never Tell? Could the name Dawn be replaced with Faith instead? Could the line be replaced to say now we are married oh well? That could work on Dollhouse! That would work for the attic episode.

I can't believe Dollhouse is going to be cancelled. I understand that viewership is low, but there is a cult following and critics like this show. It's a unique concept. Hopefully, some other network might be able to pick this up? I read somewhere that Joss is writing the final episode as a series finale, but he's also leaving doors open for a possible third.

"It would be cool if SyFy (even tho I hate the new name) could pick up the show. Although I'm not sure where they could fit it in their schedule. " They spoke out about picking up Dollhouse and they said no. Then explained why. They said the show wasn't being offered to them also it's not really in their budget to sustain a show like that and they highly doubted they would be able to hold onto the audience during the move.(via twitter) I think they'd get more of an audience if they promoted it. The thing is Dollhouse is getting these numbers from the fact that new viewers haven't been funneling in. No one I've told about the show knows about this, I've told people from different pools about this show and no one knows about it. Of course mention Bones, fringe etc. and they know what that is. I think Fox is making a big mistake. If they treated this show like their other shows, put it out there on a good night and promoted it, it'd do good. I grew up on Fox and I grew up viewing that this network was willing to put themselves out there and try different things. That's what set them apart from the other networks. Married with children and X-files comes to mind, it's just sad what they've been reduced to. Following such a straight edge never wanting to step out of the boundaries of "what works" (example of this is them putting Dollhouse straight to friday with low promotion) Dollhouse is what the network was originally about, originality and they rather pass on it. Such a pity.

I keep hearing that they are cancelling Dollhouse. If this is true, then Fox really has some lame brains working for them. They don't give a show a chance to build an audience before tossing it out- and then they bring in some cartoonish show- geared towards young, anal retentive audiences that prefer to sit at home drinking a six-pack and eating pizza while channel surfing and enjoying an over abundance of flatulence. That's not saying that all shows that are animated are lame, or that all who enjoy them are past lobectomy patients...but come on. Some of us enjoy a show that has a hint of sci-fi to it, along with fantasy, mystery and just plain smart writing. While I love the shows on that feature crime-solving, or make you think about the shape the world is in today- it's nice to have something to escape the headlines and not have to realize how crappy things might be right now. Don't cancel this show just yet. It's got a few good seasons left in it. Keep giving us the variety and unique shows that are off the beaten path. We don't want the same thing on every night...with different faces and a few corny lines changed here and there. We like having surprises- just not the kind that leave us wondering why you keep doing this. Maybe one of the cable networks will wise up and start watching for shows that Fox opts to cx, then grab 'em and run with them. Other shows have switched networks and done quite nicely- so Fox better watch out, or someone may just make a career out of picking up their discards and in the process winning the hearts and loyalty of hundreds of thousands of fans......

I was just wondering why my wife was not sending me any more episodes of Dollhouse. She kept saying that it was not on this week. So, today I got curious and started searching and found out that the show had been canceled. I'm frantic. Tomorrow when I tell my buddies that it has been canceled, they will mourn as I do now. You see, we are deployed to Afghanistan and Dollhouse was one show that really kept us going. I got the whole of season 1 on disc and all my friends have seen it. The show is fresh, different, exciting, NOT A REALITY SHOW!!!! Has the minds and imaginations of Americans deteriorated to the point that only a reality show about someone else's life fulfills them? Something truly original comes along and they just can't handle it. Such a shame! Such a waste! Well me and all of my buddies in Afghanistan loved the show and are sad to see it go. Way to go FOX!

Sad isn't it? Yep, it's canceled but it will return in December to finish it's final episodes. I'm pretty bummed out about it. It's going to be painful to watch the final new episodes knowing it's gone. Such a great show, the last show I got really got into was Buffy and that ended 6 almost 7 years ago. I was very late to the party for Buffy though. Anyway, stay safe down there.

I just read that they have cancelled Dollhouse, an original show with original ideas and great story plots. What I am fuming about at the moment is that unless you are a spin off of the million showings of Law and Order, CSI, NCIS, any number of ridiculous reality shows you don't stand a chance. Joss Whedon has created a show here that allows users to go into a world of unknown possiblities, to use their imaginations, to enjoy something completely new on Television instead of the same shows played over and over again. My Goodness people can't we enjoy something besides out of the headlines stories. Geez already. Give Dollhouse a chance.

... in addition to the above, looks like the public that enjoy a plot that makes them "think" a little beyond the "all-given" stories have to give up with today's TV programming. Thumbs DOWN for Fox if the decision has been made to cancel this show already. If instead, this is a test to see how many of us (your tele-spectators) are pissed enough to write something about it, open a poll and see for yourselves. Oh yes, but make it clear because navigating through the site trying to find a "customer service email" is impossible.

There was a thread here today about this already, posted by Gusar.
Since it got deleted maybe because of some profanity language (I guess?) and I think the news is very relevant, I'll post this again.
Looks like that, after the next October 23rd episode, the show will only return in December because Fox decided to pull it during November sweeps and replace it with "House" and "Bones" reruns... This sucks really big time and it could in fact be it for our show...

Joss, please keep up the creativity and find a better network or media outlet soon. We all need something interesting to watch and we'll be waiting for you.

Fox, NOT everybody can be as forgiving as the VIEWERS of Fox 'news'! Some people have brains, and look for something that COULD require THOUGHT!!! 'Arrested Development' - gone! 'Andy Takes On The Universe' (or whatever it was called)- gone! Hell, your line-up is making 'Melrose Place' look smart! 'Firefly' shut down while you AIR 'American Dad'?!? REALLY!!! Patrick Warbutton (IS that his last name?) HAS a funny voice, but the WHOLE 20 minutes you have to hear it (with NOTHING funny being said) is kind of like going to a bad concert that leaves a ringing in your ears for a week! If Rupert is intent on some sort of Australian take-over of the U.S., he should try to be less obvious! Eventually, the stupid will kill themselves off, like lemmings. Fox 'News', canceling good shows, while keeping the inane 'shows' on the air will catch up! If Murdoch ISN'T hell bent on a U.S. take over through television- just what IS his problem with Joss Whedon?!?
